Who, What, Where, Why?
The mission of the Goodchildren Social Aid & Pleasure Club is simple: to help revitalize St. Claude Avenue and the surrounding neighborhoods through celebration and cultural preservation.
To that end, we put on parades, community events, work with neighborhood organizations and arts groups, and with our Social Aid partners, Holy Angels and Kamp Katrina/Busker's Bunkhouse.
Goodchildren (Bons Enfants) was the original name of St. Claude.
Our logo symbolizes our three signature events: Easter Parade, StormFest, and Fringe Festival Parade. The rabbit's crown is for our King for Life, Al "Carnival Time" Johnson, a living legend of New Orleans and a symbol of its rebirth. Our motto:Renew, Remember, Rejoice! Goodchildren was established in 2007.
Goodchildren Social Aid & Pleasure Club is a grassroots organization, officially designated as a Louisiana non-profit. All funds raised go directly to support our social aid program and produce the parades in the form of permits, NOPD escorts, insurance, supplies, music, and promotions.
We produce two parades per year, Easter and Fringe Festival, and often have a presence in other neighborhood activities, such as the Mirliton Festival, Anba Dlo, and NOLA Pyrate festivals.
We fulfill our Social Aid mission through StormFest, and with our social aid partners, St. Margaret's, Holy Angels, Girl Scout Troop 40467 and Kamp Katrina/Buskers Bunkhouse.
Most of our fundraising is done at the grassroots level, with donations and support from neighborhood groups, local businesses, and arts organizations and individuals, which we supplement with fundraising events or crowdfunding.
